Greg Hardwick – Photographer and founder of The Deck Studio
I’m Greg and I am a story teller and adventurer based near Noosa, Queensland. I mainly work with full-frame digital images and video – and at times medium-format film. I currently use various Sony Alpha cameras and lenses as well as a drone.
Photography has been something I’ve done for most of my life, since I first started camping with my parents when I was just a boy.
Studying for a Degree in Environmental Science in the mid-90s helped me realise the value and power that a simple image can convey.
Since completing a Diploma of Journalism I’ve been self-employed as an Editor and Photo Journalist where images often convey the story better than words. I also have a Diploma of Photography and an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts.
I’ve been active all my life. I’ve represented my state in rowing, running and road cycling and I’ve represented Australia in Hawaii at the World Ironman triathlon championships on three occasions and the short course world titles in Florida, USA. My fastest Ironman time in Australia was 9hr 29 min, while my fastest road marathon was 2hr 47 min – not super fast by any means, but still I’m proud of my sporting past.
In recent years I’ve returned to long distance running on trails although I now spend more time planning and completing long self-supported fast hikes, often through mountainous regions with no trails. I’m always looking for new and creative endurance challenges. You can read about my latest adventures on my personal website Beyond the Woods.
What I do
I take portraits and specialise in adventure and trail-running events with a major focus on telling the story of a race and capturing emotions of the competitors.
